Jumping for Joy in January!!!

Christmas Day, I received the final answer to my health puzzle. I said that HEALING, to me, means that I do not need meds and if I WANTED to, I COULD pursue any work I desired without worry about whether I could handle it.

January Changes:

Wk1-Celery Juice and lemon water
Wk2-beet/strawberry smoothie replacing cereal and magnet rings to sleep with
Wk3-blueberry/spinach smoothie adding to my meals and a commitment to stay away from cheese and wheat to heal.
Wk4-evaluating meds and supplements, lowered protein by half, and tried a couple of new recipes…
You do NOT have to sacrifice taste to feel or get well!!!

I had 4 medications…

-I no longer need my asthma med.
-I do not need the extra herbs to sleep on top of meds and I’m actually sleeping!
-I’ve cut one anxiety med from a full pill daily down to a quarter (I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t need it. I won’t need it this week.)
-My steroid that keeps me standing has been cut in half and the doctor gave me the okay to get off of it, if I feel comfortable. It’s going this week.
-That leaves one anxiety medication.

This weekend, I went out with a friend for a few hours. The next day, went to a Women’s Conference for two half days and a night where I danced and stood to sing a few songs. Tomorrow, I’m driving to see my family at their church over an hour away. I’m not worried one bit. A little tired, but who wouldn’t be. I am healing!!!

My stomach feels cleaner, my ab muscles feel stronger, and I can think clearer.

Which opens up another calling for my future… a Health Coach. I have a few future callings (Promises) that God has been lining up for me while I’ve been seeking His answers for my healing.

But first, I want to get well, and stay there, and help my family, as well. This is going to be a GREAT Healing year for me!!

Just because you’ve been told that there is no cure, and that you’ll just have to learn to cope, does NOT make it so. There is an answer for every problem, and God answers prayers!!!

Dire Circumstances, BUT God…

Well, I had a few really good days before my body crashed again. (fatigue/dizziness) I was really frustrated, yesterday, that it didn’t make any sense. So, I’m going to just say that I was sick. When people normally get sick, it’s random, unpredictable, and inconvenient. I don’t understand the reasons, but until then, here is a list of the things I’ve seen God be there for me this last week:

5a15fc63140000460050eee9

1) God brought a friend back into my life that had hurt and disrespected me a year ago. I have kept boundaries in place, but He has been healing and leading her.

2) My oldest accomplished double his schoolwork last week to spend time with his grandparents fixing up their home. What an amazing teaching opportunity, and relationship builder!

3) The kids helped me research new recipes. My oldest even made one to take to our family reunion last Saturday! Because of this, there were no complaints about how “Mom’s killing us!” or “We’re eating like birds!”

4) We were able to spend quality time with some of our best friends in this weekend before they move later this week. I know God brought them into our lives blessing us in so many ways, and that He will bless us with more friends. It was great to spend time and hope to make plans together in the future, too.

5) I loved going to my home church, singing with incredibly talented people who I’ve missed, hugging many that I love, not needing Google maps to find my way, and feeling so loved that I could face the world again.

6) I’ve been able to work through some issues while my parents encouraged me.

7) We came home safely and were able to get the house back in order, so that I only had laundry and dishes left.

8) When I was wondering if I needed to ask for help, I realized that the house was fine, the kids know how to feed themselves because I haven’t made dinner in months, and I just needed rest since I couldn’t do much else.

9) The van’s axle broke with me driving across town. I was safe. Ford fixed it for free because of an old recall.

10) Our upstairs bathroom is getting remodeled! It’s been leaking since we moved in, so we tried not to bathe much… But we have a shower upstairs, now, and the bathroom could be finished by the end of the week.

11) The kids found out about a VBS down the street and were excited to go. Without a vehicle, I wasn’t letting them go in the rain. They prayed for it to stop and it did when it was time to go.

12) My neighbor took my kids last night to VBS since I couldn’t walk them.

13) I am grateful for those who show kindness and compassion. A friend who asked if she could help without embarrassing me in front of others, listened and tried to understand, and made sure I safely returned home.

14) Free valet parking at the hospital. He never questioned why I might need help even with his eyes. (I’ve had people do so in the past with Walmart carts.) Never made a comment about how good I look to not feel well. He even helped me with my door and seat belt. Kindness is God’s love.

verse-of-the-day

I could go on with every detail. But I just wanted to say that regardless of how dire circumstances seem, God is always there. He’s been working things out for my good from the beginning. He knows and loves me personally. Circumstances change, but God never does. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. This is why I trust and love Him.

The Child Whisperer

BLD078299

My discovery of the Dressing Your Truth program was amazing in my life! After working on that for a few months, I realized that I needed to attack the stress area of my life… with my kids. I’d already been looking for a new parenting book and had run across The Child Whisperer by Carol Tuttle. It seemed a bit pricey, though, so I prayed about it, searched for other answers, and was lead right back to it. I finally looked at the comments of others who had bought it. Everything seemed good about it, so I thought, “What have I got to lose?” I’m so very grateful that I did. The Child Whisperer went way more in depth than the Dressing Your Truth program! This was such a validation of how I had acted as a child and why I took things so hard! I got this book to be a better parent, but it was also healing for me. I don’t care if you have kids or not, this book is for you!

Now, yes, I initially got this book because I was clashing with my children… especially one child in particular: my head-strong oldest. I already had done the Dressing Your Truth program and had understood what my children’s Dominant Types were…. I have one of each Type. I just didn’t know that I could parent them according to their Type of Energy/Personality.

My oldest is a Type 4; the Type of my Mother and my Husband. I was easily angered by Type 4’s because I felt controlled. I began reading The Child Whisperer book in the Type 4 chapter and took an entire month just to read, learn, and apply what I had learned. My son and I were no longer clashing every day about everything like we had done previously, and I was shocked at the results. Honestly, some of the things that I had changed, I knew my son had tried to talk to me about before, but I didn’t understand the necessity. He asked for privacy, but he had to share a room with his younger Type 1 brother. He would get upset when I pointed out what he’d done wrong in front of the whole family. I would discipline him being critical of his siblings. I learned that I could address these issues in a better way. I learned that the things that I thought were wrong about  my children can be a gift. I have been reading and applying this book with each of my children and learning to understand them, love them, encourage, and allow them to be the gifts that God designed them to be instead of trying to control them.

When you don’t have what you NEED, you may feel that you are unloved and misunderstood. I have seen way too many people act out because of feeling this way. I have now come to the conclusion that EVERYONE NEEDS:

  1. To be LOVED- I have really enjoyed the 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman that helped me to understand the different ways that we all feel, express, and NEED to be loved. I used to get upset that one of my children was constantly seeking attention in a bad way. I now realize that she was seeking to be loved in her way.
  2. To be UNDERSTOOD-This book: The Child Whisperer by Carol Tuttle has helped me to understand myself, my children, my extended family, and many others around me. I had been so judgmental thinking that there was only one way to be. I’m so grateful to be able to understand others which makes it easier to love them.
  3. To be DISCIPLINED– I used to have the quote on my wall as a teenager, “If you don’t discipline yourself, others will discipline you.” While I enjoyed The Child Whisperer book and I need to discipline my children less, now, I really enjoyed the books by Dr. Kevin Leman on Positive Parenting. However, without understanding how the person takes things or why, it will be less effective.

Digestive Health and Healing

digestive-health-reversing-ulcerative-colitis_300 The stomach if VITAL in your everyday health. The intestinal tract is where about 70% of your immune system resides. Much of the beneficial bacteria we would normally obtain through fresh fruits and vegetables are removed in modern food preparation processes. Plus diet, stress, travel, and even some medications can encourage the non-beneficial bacteria in your body to flourish. An imbalance of bacteria could lead to a weakened immune system, which means your health is at risk. But if you take care of your body, it will take care of itself.

One of my all-time FAVORITE essential oils is Peppermint!!! For me to remember, it seems to take the power of 3. My mom bought me Peppermint essential oil when I was pregnant with my third. My prior pregnancies, I had been extremely sick for up to 5 months. I would put a drop of Peppermint Essential Oil on my finger and put it on the roof of my mouth. It would stop the nausea for a while. (It is not good for you closer to the end of your pregnancy or during nursing because it can diminish your milk supply) I have since put a drop of Peppermint Essential Oil in a cup of water and drank it down to stop migraines, upset stomach, throwing up, constipation, bloating, or diarrhea. It is awesome for emergency digestive problems. (For children, dilute one drop in a tablespoon of oil and rub on the outside of the stomach)

CELERY JUICE

The anti-inflammatory properties in celery juice can help with acid reflux, bloating, IBS, constipation, acne, eczema, and other inflammation issues in the body. Celery juice is very high in vitamin K which promotes general bone and heart health.

Probiotics…. are healthy bacteria that your body needs to help fight viruses! Yes, your body does already have healthy bacteria, but in our culture with high sugar, high processed foods, high stress, high medicinal use, more people than not have stomach issues.

However, fermented foods and cultured probiotics on the shelves do not stay alive enough to affect your small intestines which is where you most need them. There are a couple of probiotics that can, and I will list them here, but your best bet is organic fruits and veggies: not washed or cooked too much or you will strip off the prebiotics on them.

A couple of other options are Enzymedica – Pro-Bio Probiotic and MaryRuth’s Liquid Probiotic. Make sure that they are plant-based, not milk or animal based.

I am not a doctor. I am a mom who researches natural answers for our family. I hope that it helps you. It is important to remember that all Bodies are different. Please follow the recommended dosages. It’s also important to remember that not ONE herb can heal every person. If you cannot handle the smell of a particular herb, stay AWAY from it. There were many herbs created that heal the same thing. God knew that each of our bodies are different and accommodated for that. It is also important to make sure that we watch our diet and exercise, as well. Research your ailment, medications that may interact, and potential allergies. Essential oils are potent, so use them the way they were intended. Some are only aromatic or topical, and many are able to be ingested. Some you can use without diluting them, others are not for children. Other oils that can help with these ailments include:

Bloating: DigestZen

Constipation: Rosemary, Lemon, Peppermint, Marjoram, DigestZen, Ginger, Fennel, Orange, Rose, Juniper Berry, Sandalwood

Diarrhea: Peppermint, Ginger, Geranium, DigestZen, Orange, Patchouli, Melalueca, Sandalwood, Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Cypress, Eucalyptus

For children: Geranium, Ginger, Sandalwood

Gas/Flatulence: Lavender, Ginger, Peppermint, Eucalpytus, Bergamot, Myrrh, Juniper Berry, Rosemary, DigestZen softgels

Antibiotics Kill!

antibiotics

My family and I have been through MANY antibiotics for various infections. In fact, the damage to our stomach lining is so bad that it has caused an INCREASING number of food allergies and other problems. My number one goal this year is to heal our family. First, I conquered sicknesses and infections. Now, I’m on a mission to heal the stomach from all the damage done. First of all, let me help you understand why I feel it is so important.

Up to 4 lbs of your body weight comes from bacteria. The average person has around 400 different types of friendly bacteria, mainly resident in the digestive tract, which are forever multiplying. These bacteria are the first line of defense against unfriendly bacteria and other disease-producing microbes including viruses and fungi. They also make some vitamins and digest fibre, allowing us to derive more nutrients from otherwise indigestible food

Like pesticides, the purpose of antibiotic drugs is to kill life (anti-bio). But as well as destroying pathogenic bacteria, antibiotics also destroy friendly ones. The more ‘broad spectrum’ the antibiotic, the more strains of beneficial bacteria will also be killed. A single course of antibiotics can wipe out beneficial strains of bacteria for SIX MONTHS or more!

“When you take antibiotics, you are doing to your body what a farmer does when he sprays his fields with pesticides” says medical researcher Geoffrey Cannon, author of the book Superbug.

According to microbiologist, Professor Richard Lacey, the widespread overuse of antibiotics is the major cause of changes observed in the last decade in the balance of bacteria in the gut. Overuse of antibiotics, in particular ampicillin and tetracyclines, is resulting in a generation of new strains of ‘superbugs’ – bacteria which have become resistant to the very drugs designed to destroy them. Medical researcher Dr Stuart Levy from Tufts University says that these changes are “unparalleled in recorded biologic history”. So serious is the problem that now there are new drug-resistant versions of every disease-causing bacterium. Drug-resistant tuberculosis, for example, now accounts for one in seven new cases.

It’s not just antibiotics, but the whole mentality of developing drugs to kill bugs that needs to be questioned. After all, vast improvements in sanitation in the Western world have been achieved this century, and, in the last twenty years, medicine has doled out billions of anti-biotic, anti-viral and anti-fungal medicines. If this approach was working you’d expect less overall deaths from infections and less cases of food poisoning. In fact, exactly the opposite has occurred.

The best way to fight infection is to have a strong immune system in the first place and the right balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut. If a pathogen does then conic along, your natural defenses can fight it off. But what if you do succumb to an infection?

Instead of giving a drug to wipe out the enemy, specific strains of beneficial bacteria are given to reinforce the body’s natural defenses. For example, giving children probiotics has been shown to halve the recovery time.

I am excited that we have taken the first step this year to strengthen our immune system this year! Check out my blog post on how I have helped my family to fight and prevent sicknesses, infections, cuts, and asthmatic reactions in our home.
